2025 Future Connect SBAT Breakfast
At the School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) Breakfast held on Thursday, September 4, at West Waters Hotel, a meaningful morning was fostered for connection and networking, promoting SBAT pathways for young people between SBAT providers and career teachers.
We heard from two young people: Chloe, a recent graduate who completed her SBAT last year and has transitioned into the workforce, continuing her employment at Melton Waves, demonstrating how SBATs provide lasting opportunities beyond school. Minh, another SBAT young person who completed his SBAT graduate and started working with the SBAT team at the Department of Education.
We were also pleased to welcome Loretta Black, VET Unit Manager at the VCAA, who joined online to present updates on VETDSS priority areas and training provider availability, vital insights for schools and students planning their pathways. The event concluded with a Networking Session led by Najib, giving careers teachers the chance to connect with industry providers, including HeadStart, VACC, Leisure Employment Australia, Integrity Business, and MEGT. With 15 minutes at each table, students and staff explored opportunities, asked questions, and built valuable industry connections. The SBAT breakfast is an annual event hosted by Future Connect to strengthen the continued partnerships between schools, industry, and training providers in preparing students for real-world opportunities through student-based apprentice and traineeships.
