SBAT Info 2018 Forum

On Thursday, October 19 the BMLLEN hosted the SBAT Info 2018 Forum.  This was a breakfast event held at Lakeside Banquet & Convention Centre in Taylors Lakes.  45 people attended the event including 16 school staff from 13 schools across the Brimbank and Melton region.

Daryl Sutton, VET Advisor for the Victorian Curriculum & Assessment Authority (VCAA) provided an update on School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and hinted at some recommendations from a recent SBAT review.

Ollie Gladwell (MEGT) and Daniel Grech (Apps Matter) offered insights into the differences between Apprenticeships and Traineeships and their roles as AASNs (Australian Apprenticeships & Traineeship Support Networks).  The VCAA and AASNs offered valuable information to supplement the SBAT programs on offer.

This is the second year the Breakfast speed-dating style event has been held.  Last year’s event was supported by 5 SBAT providers who earlier this year reported that 183 SBAT enrolments from schools who had attended the event.  This year 9 SBAT providers were invited to present 24 programs over 6 rotations making it possible to have better informed discussions with career and pathway staff.

“It was very beneficial to explain our program in a relaxed atmosphere without the restrictions of a formal presentation.  Much better for schools to ask questions”. (Feedback from SBAT provider).

“This was fantastic.  Having the time to talk to different agencies was great”. (Feedback from school representative).
